Homeowners warned ‘beware of the cold’

Those Britons taking out homeowner loans for house or garden renovations have been warned to take heed of the weather.

According to Halifax Home Insurance unseasonable weather and a predicted temperature fall could damage buildings and gardens.

Freezing temperatures could lead to burst pipes, while bedding plants and new turf could also be damaged by changes in the weather, the financial services firm warns.

"A sudden unseasonal drop in temperature can wreak havoc on people’s homes and gardens if they are unprepared for it," explained Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting at the firm.

"So by simply protecting plants and insulating pipes, you can help protect yourself from disasters."

Homeowners could look to specialist homeowner loans to help cover the costs associated with home improvements and garden renovations.

Edward Simpson, head of public affairs at the Finance and Lending Association, recently claimed that a growing number of Britons are taking out homeowner loans to cover the cost of home improvements and house extensions.
